Why a Macgregor 26x?
These boats could have been designed with the Bahamian Out Islands in mind,
and in our opinion are absolutely perfect for the very shallow waters of the west coast of Long Island
as, opposed to the traditional fixed 5'-6' keel of the majority "real" sailboats
they draw only 12" of water with the retractable centerboard up (5'6" down)
this not only means you can explore virtualy anywhere,
but you can "beach" the boat too!, perfect for a picnic on the beach
or maybe a little beachcombing/treasure hunting.SERIOUS STUFF!
IMPORTANT NAVIGATION NOTE;
The boat is equipped with local charts, GPS, Auto-pilot, RADAR etc,
But PILOTAGE BY EYE is recommended in all the islands of the Bahamas,
and whilst sailing the Southern Out Islands it is absolutely essential!
In the shallow waters here, sandbars are constantly shifting
Coral heads are difficult to see
So please avoid night sailing, and always keep a sharp lookout.
